There is a girl with impossibly long legs on the escalator. I’m pretty sure everyone in the Cape Quarter is staring at her. Her short black cocktail dress seems a bit overkill, but then again it is the launch of the first Friday Night Block Party. Usually Cape Quarter shops close at 6 pm on a Friday, but on block party nights they’re open till late and there’s even a DJ playing.
In general I like to stay away from malls. I think this might have to do with the fact that when I was very young, my dad once lost me in a mall. Thanks Dad. However Cape Quarter is more of a ‘lifestyle village’ and one I wouldn’t mind getting lost in. With its delicious restuarants (have you ever had a macaron from Daniela’s Deliciously Decadent? If not, go there now, I’ll wait.), perfumeries such as Santa Maria Novella, and decor shops including Lime Grove and Nap Living, there really is something for everyone.
So if you feel like starting your weekend browsing boutiques then having a pizza at Andiamo or decadent smoothie at Cold Press, Friday Night Block Party can ease you into the party mood, while also allowing you to get some of your shopping done. (It’s nearly Christmas after all!) Hell I even got a manicure from Sorbet while we shopped – because why not?
Also, if that girl is anything to go by, the clientele is really quite good-looking.
