A cavalcade of about 500 hundred motorists, carrying 200o people from the farming community, are proceeding from Stellenbosch to Green Point Stadium in Cape Town. Their aim is to show solidarity and bring attention to the recent wave of farm attacks in the country.
Dubbed “Black Monday”, the procession gathered in Klapmuts and started their day with a prayer. South African’s were urged to wear black as a sign of mourning in light of the recent wave of farm attacks. A Klapmuts farmer, Joubert Conradie, 47, died in hopsital following an attack at his farm last week – the murder was a catalyst for #BlackMonday.
Nationwide, there have been 341 farm attacks since the start of 2017 – 70 of which were fatal.
