Are you one of those unfortunate people who’s name is always misspelt or auto corrected from Thandi, to Thanking or Thailand? Is your name always underlined like a mistake? This is good news for you, Nando’s and M&C Saachi’s new campaign has got your back, and your named spelt right.

The new #Rightmyname campaign aimed at South Africans with ethnic or traditional names will encourage people to recognise diversity. Your name can now be added to a dictionary database that that will recognise it, and no longer make it a spelling mistake. Hey, Wessel (not Weasel).

Nando’s steered away from their usual controversial advertising to create a campaign aimed at correctly spelling names by Human Right’s Day in 2018, which is December 10.

M&C Saatchi Abel’s Gordon Ray says: “It’s pretty ridiculous that in 2018 everyone with a non-traditional or non-English name gets told that their name is a mistake – Nando’s doesn’t think that’s good enough.”

On 21 March 2018, you’ll be able to update your spell check dictionary and get rid of the red line beneath your name – and the names of all your friends and family too. To add your name visit @NandosSA rightmyname.co.za

Any company in South Africa will be able to download this database and pretty much just cut and paste into your dictionary and hopefully people who work in your company will never have to feel like they are a mistake ever again.”

On their website Nando’s says:

Hi

Welcome to our casa.

If you’re here, it’s probably because you’re seeing red.

We don’t blame you. Our diversity is part of what makes Mzansi great, and we think it’s
totally crazy that the tech we use every day still tells us that our names are a mistake.

So let’s fix our sh*t. Add your name below to a new database of South African names,
and help us #rightmyname by Human Rights Day 2018.

Then, on 21 March this year, you’ll be able to update your spellcheck dictionary and get
rid of the red line beneath your name – and the names of all your friends and family too.

We’re all in this together, South Africa – so let’s Fire It Up!
