Our very own funny man, Trevor Noah will add “Director” to his skill set soon. The Daily Show host is been reported to be very excitement about this new undertaking – his book is being made into a movie. Born A Crime: Stories From A South African Childhood, Noah’s autobiography details his life with his mother, a woman who embodied resilience, tenacity and bravado, as she raised her mixed race child during apartheid in South Africa.

The book was released in 2016, and won several awards. The book became a New York Times Bestseller, received a James Thurber Prize for American Humour and two NAACP Image Awards. Noah is ecstatic about Lupita Nyong’o, who plays Nakia in Marvel’s Black Panther, will be starring and producing the movie. Nyong’o will play the role of Noah’s mother, Patrica, who the book was dedicated to. Trevor reposted Nyong’o’s tweet, expressing his happiness.

In response he added, “My mom is a powerful woman who could easily be one of the beautiful soldiers in Wakanda. So it’s beyond a perfect fit that she would be portrayed on the big screen by the radiant and regal Lupita Nyong’ o. I’m beyond excited.”

As South Africans, we were all filled with pride when he was announced as The Daily Show host, taking over from Jon Steward.

Our local boy has come along way from illegally selling CD’s and DJ’ing in Soweto. Born a Crime was so well received, Noah has agreed to publish a second memoir to follow Born a Crime, which is due for release in November 2018.
