Camps Bay beachgoers were left red-faced yesterday after emergency calls were put through about a beached whale on the rocks near the beach. In fact, the washed up whale turned out to be a sun fish, still alive, weighing around 30 kg’s and significantly smaller than a whale. Perhaps marine biology introduced into the national school curriculum?

Members of the public returned the fish to the ocean before it returned on the rocks, progressively injured and exhausted. Before an attempt was to be made by the NSRI to transport it to the Aquarium for observation, it was pushed out to sea again by the public. Read more about that here.

Last week Cape Town suffered an incredible shortage of sailor caps and white & blue striped tees in retail outlets. An army of replica Popeyes and nautical wenches descended upon City Hall and Grand Parade over the weekend for the annual MCQP and from what I’m hearing, everyone had a great time. This year’s theme was Royal Navy and many a bottle of grog was consumed. The image below by @papa_skene captured some of the gees. Screen Shot 2014-12-22 at 7.56.37 AM

Hopefully by now you have completed your Christmas shopping, because the malls are resembling war zones. Have a great Monday!

Cheers,
Justin
