More glorious rainfall is expected for the Mother City this weekend, according to the SA weather service. Get your collection buckets lined up because the downpour starts in the early hours of Saturday morning and will continue into the early evening.

The City of Cape Town recorded 216mm of rain for the month of May, which is much higher than the same time last year. Rain in the catchment areas has increased Western Cape dam levels to a progressive 29,8%.

The 100% forecast for Saturday will bring approximately 16mm of water to the drought-stricken city. Areas that will experience the highest levels of rainfall are Paarl, Worcester and Ceres. You can also expect a cold front to sweep in with the wet weather.

There is much anticipation to see the dam levels reach the 30% mark after this weekend.

Not all dams in the Cape Town region are expected to receive rain however with Theewaterskloof dam being left out while currently at 20%.

Deputy Mayor, Ian Neilson has urged locals to continue to save water religiously to keep consumption down. Last week the levels rose to 529-million litres per day, compared to 505-million litres the previous week.

“We are fortunate in Cape Town to have a strong partnership between water users and the City that will continue to get us through tough times. I would like to thank our residents and the professional, highly skilled officials who have been working incredibly hard to help us navigate the drought.” said Deputy Mayor, Ian Neilson.
