The City of Cape Town’s dam levels have risen by 4.6% since last week’s readings, bringing the City’s water resources to a capacity of 42.7%, with the Theewaterskloof dam seeing a particularly healthy rise.

The dam is now at 30.4% capacity, compared to last week’s 27.2%, with 480 188 million cubic metres of water. Just a year ago, the very same dam’s levels sat at 17% full.

In February, the dam levels were 11.5% full, forcing authorities to drill into the dam to extracts the last 10% of water.

The Department of Water and Sanitation has said that the province is not yet out of the woods as it may take up to four seasons of rainfall to fully replenish dams.
