The patriarch of one of the most talented families in the world, Joe Jackson, has died at the age of 89. According to family sources, the head of the Jackson family, passed away on Wednesday morning (US time) after suffering from terminal cancer. Joe was in hospitalised this month, and his family has been flocking to his bedside. It is alleged that his wife, Katherine was by his side when he passed on.
The Jackson family has had many scandals surrounding them, including allegations of Joe physically abusing his famous children into becoming great performers.
He engineered the careers of the Jackson 5, then Michael and Janet. Michael was vocal about the abuse he endured at the hands of Joe, but the father maintained he did this to make his children successful and keep them off the streets. During Michael’s molestation trial, Joe stood by his side and believed in his innocence.
Michael Jackson’s estate representative told TMZ: “We are deeply saddened by Mr. Jackson’s passing and extend our heartfelt condolences to Mrs. Katherine Jackson and the family. Joe was a strong man who acknowledged his own imperfections and heroically delivered his sons and daughters from the steel mills of Gary, Indiana to worldwide pop superstardom.”
Katherine and Joe have been married for more than 60 years, even though they did not live together – they had 10 children together.
When Michael Jackson felt that the world was against him, his father was by his side and took his hand in his own. A seemingly small gesture that would have meant the world to Michael, regardless of his predicament. #JoeJackson pic.twitter.com/Ao8tuLw77L
