The Cape Milner is one of the Mother City’s best kept secrets – this petite boutique hotel is nestled among the hilly roads of Tamboerskloof and its exterior is as unassuming as its hidden opulence.
The Glass Lounge and sister restaurant, 2 on Milner, have just received spectacular new looks, bringing a streamlined and modern feel to these popular hangout spots.
The revamp of this renowned four-star lounge is inspired by a combination of the classic opulence of a speakeasy and sleek, cosmopolitan influences of Art Deco – the perfect combination for a city as diverse as Cape Town.
The Glass Lounge offers a tantalizing array of signature cocktails, an extensive wine list and delicious tapas that will leave you spoilt for choice as you sit back and relax with a group of friends. My personal favorites include their hot jalapeño and cream cheese cigars coupled with a classic Mojito – it may have been the best one I’ve tasted to date.
The relaxed and sophisticated atmosphere of the Glass Lounge makes it easy to forget about the day’s woes; the staff is friendly and attentive, the setting is serene and luxurious, and the location makes it the perfect place to view the city lights from.
If you can manage to tear your eyes away from the beautiful blue decor, the glass roof offers a breathing view of the romantic starry night.
Natasha Powell, general manager of the hotel, said that the update brings the spaces right up to date with the stylish, contemporary look of the rest of the hotel. “Both The Glass Lounge and 2 on Milner are such energetic, light-filled spaces and these changes have really added an up-to-date refinement which is urban, modern, fun and warm”.
