One house in Milner Street was burned to the ground and two fisheries store rooms were set alight during protests in the Hout Bay area on Sunday.

The disgruntled community took to the streets to protest after a poacher was allegedly shot dead by officials on Saturday. At midday, sirens rang out and plumes of smoke filled the air in the small coastal town when protestors set tyres alight on Princess Street.

Shortly thereafter, police fired rubber bullets to disperse the crowd that had gathered. Three suspects have since been arrested on multiple charges including arson.

Motorists have been advised not to use roads near the harbour and to alternatively use Victoria Road. Protestors have also attacked SAPS, City vehicles and some private homes too.
