Fall in love with South African bands, as you float on a lilo in the Breede River at the Up The Creek music festival 2016.
The epic line-up features over 30 of the best South African bands and artists that will appeal to a rainbow of party-goers. Read our blog post to get the full scoop on the entertainment.
Up The Creek takes place in the sublime Breede River Valley near Swellendam. A scenic ±2.5-hour drive from Cape Town, it’s far enough for you to leave your worries in the city and revel the weekend away at the river.
The folk at Up The Creek take festival goers’ feedback to heart and due to popular demand, the event is returning to its 2014 size with only 2,700 passes available. Word on the street is that steadfast Creekers have already bought up 50% of said tickets, so it’s best to secure your ticket ASAP to avoid missing out.
The designated camping area is grassy and green, but if you prefer to camp near your car, you may, but be prepared – it’s like Mordor in comparison. You might opt to rock out in a bit more style with Heartbreak Motel Tented Camp, which provides comfortable pre-pitched tents, bedding and breakfast along with easier access to your car.
You may bring alcohol to consume in the camping area but there is a zero glass policy, so decant your tipple into plastic bottles or bring cans instead.
If you try to make a fire, a safety officer will slap you with a fine, but bring your skottle (gas cooker), bacon, eggs and all the trimmings to teach your neighbouring campers how to do breakfast like a boss. Alternatively, hunt down a food truck you haven’t sampled from yet.
Don’t forget your ticket and a form of ID, tent, sleeping surfaces, bedding, camping chairs and a source of light. Other essentials include sun block, insect repellent, hat, sunglasses, swimming gear, anything that floats, towel, something warm, cash, and the all-important headache pills.
Ticket name changes and scam tickets
If you arrive at the gate with a fake barcoded ticket, you will be sent away. If you want to check that yours is legit, contact [email protected].
If you got your hands on a ticket which doesn’t have your personal details on it, you might experience a problem. Ask the original purchaser to contact [email protected] with their details and yours (name, email and ID). NuTickets will then reissue the ticket with the correct details.
Make the most of the festival and weekend away: Gates open at 3 pm on Thursday 28 January and close at 5 pm on Sunday 31 January.
Bring the good vibes and let’s head to the river for the feel-good festival of the year.
