Tuesday 18 October 7pm
Observatory Community and Recreation Centre, Observatory
Keen for poi? Even heard of poi? It’s a Maori performance art involving the rhythmic swinging of balls attached to tethers (also called poi). FireTribe offers training in this art form, and teaches you how to move and dance while swinging poi.
Not only is this is a great artistic activity, but it strengthens the upper body and helps develop full body co-ordination, balance and spatial awareness. Once you’ve mastered it, you might have the opportunity to light up your poi, and learn the art of fire dancing.
Interested? An hour-long drop in class is scheduled for Monday 18 October. It offers newcomers the chance to attempt poi before actually signing up for regular classes. It is aimed at mixed levels, so everyone is welcome. Practice poi are provided if you do not own a pair.
Do take note that space is limited, so booking early is essential. You can book by emailing FireTribe at [email protected].
