Tie up those shoelaces, runners: the Sanlam Cape Town Marathon is back on September 15. Over 26 000 local and international participants will be lining up to join the 42.2km city marathon.
The race begins at the V&A Waterfront at 6.30am and concludes outside Green Point stadium.
For those not so athletically inclined, the organisers are offering up a number of fun sideline activities. Supporters can hang out in spectator zones along the marathon route and be entertained by live music and dancing.
The Gees Competition will be offering individual supporters, club members and charities the chance to win a share of R250 000. To be in line to win, participants must post pictures to social media of their wacky outfits while wearing the official fan bib, available on the Sanlam website, and use #SCTMgees and tag @ctmarathon. Cash prizes range from R2 000 to R50 000.
As Africa’s only IAAF Gold-Label-status city marathon, the Sanlam Cape Town Marathon is one of the world’s leading road races. The marathon works to encourage change through multiple pillars, including promoting health and wellness, fundraising, promoting peace, and empowering South African athletes. It also acts as a platform to raise awareness about pertinent social issues facing the various Cape Town communities. Over 50 charities will participate in the event.
Catch the race live on SABC2 from 6.30am or live-stream on the Cape Town marathon website.
