The global grassroots movement started by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) in Australia is back on 25 March for its 10th instalment – and this year, WWF South Africa are going beyond the hour with a campaign to persuade Eskom to use renewable energy – sign the petition here then head to Kirstenbosch on the day where you can participate in an exploration by torchlight across a 5 km course. Families are also encouraged to bring along a picnic and enjoy the soothing sounds of singer Myrthe Buijs as she helps usher in Earth Hour.
The Earth Hour movement encourages individuals, businesses and governments to turn off their lights for 60 minutes in the hopes that it be a gateway to engage in meaningful dialogue for real solutions to environmental problems.
Note: participants to this event are required to bring along their own headlamp or torch, and a drinking cup, mug or bottle as there will be a strict no-waste policy. No food will be on sale at the event, however, Coffee Cafe will be selling hot drinks and water stations will be available.
