A great perk of working in the creative industry is having continuous access to a radical and diverse flow of talent and inspiration. The nature of the field in itself almost never allows for a dull moment; I love it.
Nothing beats coming in to work on a Monday morning, only to be reminded of how unbelievably blessed I am to do what I love for a living: writing.
I won’t lie, I definitely didn’t wake up thinking “yay, Monday morning”. In all honestly, I found myself feeling a bit creatively stumped earlier today.
That is until Peter Frost, award-winning editor, writer, and photographer popped by my desk and did what he does best – tell stories.
He brought me up to speed with the work of a young creative named Geezy. Short story made even shorter, this youngster used to work in a shoe shop.
A woman, completely out of the blue, came into the store and asked Geezy what he was passionate about. He said “doodling”.
I would have been lost for words but she managed to make a profound moment out of what was, in my opinion, quite a comical response.
She went on to give Geezy some insane advice: find a way to make a career out of doing what you love. And so, he did.
Now a young entrepreneur, Geezy hand-doodles custom apparel, including jackets and sneakers. He didn’t lie when he told the woman in the store that he is good at it either. Peter was wearing the coolest hand-crafted shoes I have ever seen – truly beautiful.
To come full circle, today was a reminder to be thankful for the position I’ve found myself in. To celebrate the creative process and the endless life and light and inspiration that comes with it – even on moody Mondays.
If there is one thing I’d like to pass on from Peter and his sneakers (and some random woman in a shoe shop), it’s to find what you love and then do that.
