My family and friends often joke that I was born in the wrong era. My love for all things rainbows, groovy, alternative and quirky have been a part of me since I was a child. As a youngster, I never dressed conventionally. Every day was a dress-up party. Well, that or refusing to wear any clothes at all.

A free spirit from the start.

Along with my untamed nature comes an indescribable infatuation with art, all things unusual, and the outdoors, of course. I’ve never had the desire to live in a mansion or own a Ferrari. Give me a tent, a horse (by horse I mean unicorn), Mother Nature and I’m in heaven.

I feel most connected with myself and nature when camping. I love it. I didn’t think anything could surpass a good old tent. Until I saw these Gypsy Style gems from Treedom Villas and Vardos.

You have to check out these babies that have been newly established in Wilderness, one of my favourite places to get away. And they are the first of their kind in South Africa, nogal!

“Just like those in history, Vardos have their own stories, and just like each family decorated and painted their Vardo, so have we,” said founders, Marc and Debbie Nortje.

“When designing the Vardos we wanted to collaborate with those who could really see our vision. We wanted quirky people who live and breathe art, we wanted authenticity so we called Afrikaburn.

“They suggested Lisa Von Brandis who is a painting genius. Lisa then called her friend Scott Waterhouse who handled design and Scott called his friend Gordon Rattey who is in charge of all wood sculptures and general awesomeness. Monique Morgan who handled sculpture, colour palettes, building moulds for casting resin for all the 3D art you will see on the Vardos,” continued Debbie.

It doesn’t end there. Three more villas are available: The Mermaid, The Angel, and The Unicorn are coming soon, too!

My only question is: when can I move in?
