The Mother City has topped another highly coveted list after featuring on ‘Best cities in the world’ by global travel guide, Time Out.

The online travel guide publication released their annual 48 Best Cities in the world and it comes as no surprise that Cape Town made the list in 12th position.

In partnership with Tapestry Research, Time Out gathered data from a survey that reached 34 000 anonymous city-dwellers. The survey asked ‘urbanites’ to rate their city in several areas; from food, drink, culture, nightlife, neighborhoods, overall happiness, city’s beauty, affordability, convenience and more.

In order to refine the data, a second survey was given to Time Out’s global network of editors and experts which resulted in definitive ranking of the world’s best cities for 2019.

Cape Town surpassed other popular tourist destinations such as Las Vegas, Barcelona, Buenos Aires and Singapore to name a few.

Nine out of ten Capetonians said that the city is beautiful making a point that the backdrop of Table Mountain offers “one of the most stunning urban backdrops in the world..”

Locals who completed the survey said that the City has it all from mountain hiking, spending time on the beach to savouring delicious food and an array of drinks.

New York stole the show being dubbed the ‘greatest city’, and residents of the Big Apple voted it as the most diverse city in the world. Locals also ranked it highly for culture along with great food and drinks. Australia’s Melbourne was given the honour of second place due to its level of multiculturalism and fun.

The study found several other interesting factors:

-Paris is the most sleep-deprived city in the world as Parisians are the most sociable people, spending their week nights out and about.

-Bangkok has been dubbed the capital of ‘eating on your feet’ – with most tourists and locals grabbing a bite at a street food vendor, food market or takeaway spot.

-Berlin residents are more likely to be vegan.

-Madrid knows how to party as locals drink the most beer in the world and head to the bars and clubs most often. It is also the world’s least stressed city-dwellers.
