The Pug Rescue Association of South Africa is hosting their annual ‘Pug Olympics’, where small breed dogs take part in a number of activities from racing to fancy dress, allowing your four-legged friend to enjoy a day of fun in the sun.
The event is an annual favourite for small breed dog owners and is hosted by the Pug Rescue Association of South Africa in an effort to raise funds to help the organisation with its rehabilitation and rehoming of pugs across the country.
The Pug Rescue Association of South Africa is a non-profit organisation that cares for over 125 homeless animals on a daily basis, with a majority of them being pugs and are all are up for adoption. It also provides a permanent home to 60 pugs that are either too old for adoption or have medical conditions that require constant care.
Pug Olympics offers the ‘pawfect’ list of activities, including the fancy dress competition, a sprint race, obstacle course race, a potato and spoon race and and and on-lead race where owners get involved to help their furry best friend win the competition.
A race will take place for those small breed dogs that are aged or have special needs to make sure that no one misses out on the fun. All small breed dogs can take place in the honorary race on the day.
Multiple prizes and hampers are up for grabs on the day.
Pug Rescue Association of South Africa spokesperson, Janine Nortje, explains that the event is more than a fun activity for dogs and their owners.
“The Pug Olympics gives us the chance to catch up with the owners as well as the adopted pugs. It is always rewarding and motivating to see how the pugs have integrated as a loving member of the family,” Nortje said.
Pug Olympics is a whole family event that caters to more than just your furry friends, involving the whole family in the event with a candid photo booth to capture the special moment with you and your dog, running in the race to keep their tails wagging or moving to the beat with the live DJ music performance.
Airbrush tattoos will be available for everyone at the event.
Food and refreshments will be provided on the day and pug merchandise will be available to purchase, offering patrons the chance to purchase anything and everything pug related. In addition, second-hand books will be available as well.
Entrance to the event will cost R20 per adult, R10 per child and R5 for pups and is charged upon entry.
Patrons are advised to bring their own chairs, umbrellas or gazebos for the day.
