The Two Oceans Aquarium is proud to announce the arrival of a new northern rockhopper named Chippy-Goodwill to the Penguin Exhibit.
Chippy-Goodwill is the son of Roxy and Grommet, who incubated their baby boy’s egg for a month before it was handed over to the Chick Rearing Unit at the South African Foundation for the Conservation of Coastal Birds (SANCCOB) on 20 December 2017.
SANCCOB is well-known for their incredible work in rehabilitating South African seabirds. Their experience in rearing penguin chicks has also proved invaluable as many of the Aquarium’s penguins have been reared by this organisation.
Typically, Northern rockhopper penguin chicks hatch after 33 to 34 days. Chippy-Goodwill, however, hatched after 35 days. He was finally born on the Day of Goodwill.
You can see Chippy-Goodwill, as well as his sisters Miss Harold Custard and Clax, at the Two Oceans Aquarium’s Penguin Exhibit.
