The Mother City is a haven for the avid outdoorsman. Hiking trails, snorkelling with seals, ziplining – Cape Town has it all. Whether you love spending time in nature or are simply looking to get off the couch this weekend, here are a few fun ‘go outside and see the adventure’ activities you can enjoy this weekend.

Kayaking with dolphins:

Spend the weekend paddling the Atlantic ocean in search of dolphins (and you may even get to spot a few penguins). There are a number of kayak tours that begin at Mouille Point or head out further and try a kayak tour around the Hout Bay harbour. Either way, it’s sure to be a thrilling experience.

Snorkel with seals:

If you’re looking to rub fins with a different sea creature, then head to Hout Bay for a swim with the Cape Fur Seal colony. The tour runs for around two hours, and it’s the perfect opportunity to immerse yourself in nature. The tours are weather dependent and start at R650 per person.

Tandem paragliding:

If you’re looking for something that will get your adrenaline pumping, then tandem paragliding is a must-try. Flights depend on the wind and last anywhere between five to 30 minutes. You can find the launch site at either Signal Hill or Lion’s Head, so you can expect gorgeous views of the Mother City! Prices are currently R1000 for locals, so make sure you don’t miss it.

Ziplining:

Head to Grabouw for a day of soaring through the mountains. Based in Hottentots Holland Nature Reserve, get your heart racing as you fly through the canopy, with some lines as long as 300 metres. Guests are joined by professional guides, with tours lasting around four hours. If you’re looking for a mountain adventure – this is it. Tours cost around R895 per person.

E-bike through Stellenbosch:

If you’re still looking for an adventure but with a little more of a chilled vibe, why not spend some time biking through the historic town of Stellenbosch? This E-bike tour meanders through Cape Town’s wine landscape and stops in Franschhoek. Enjoy a delicious lunch and wine tasting at one of Franschhoek’s many wine estates before heading back to Stellenbosch. Prices start at R980 per person.
