Cape Town is often discussed as the city that encompasses almost everyone’s adventure adorations, and now it’s confirmed.  Beach person? Cape Town has you covered like sunscreen. Mountain person? Let the Mother City move you with our wonders. City person? Our concrete jungle really is where some dreams are made of.

The New York based publication, Travel + Leisure, recently announced the 25 most beautiful beaches in the world. It may have been our sand-kissed gem, Camps Bay Beach, that was crowned a spot in the treasure chest of the world’s most beautiful beaches. However, unlike almost every other feature, it was our city in its entirety that was gushed over, literally because we’re the city that offers everything.

The list definitely saw us sitting with some high rollers at the table of beach royalty. Some other mentions are Brazil’s Baia do Sancho, which for example has been called the world’s best beach more than once. Or Mauritius’ Le Morne, which boasts sand so soft that it actually feels like walking on clouds.

Hawaii’s Hanalei Bay, a Hollywood favourite that was the setting for films like The Descendants, and of course Greece’s Elafonissi Beach which is famous for turquoise enchanted waters meeting pastel pink sand.

And then, like a ‘ship smoke on the horizon’, the Camps Bay Beach emerged, with a little less beach and a lot more Cape Town.

“Truly beautiful beaches tend to be remote-island destinations far from the urban buzz. A big exception is Camps Bay Beach, right in vibrant Cape Town,” wrote the page. They went on to mention everything from Bo-Kaap to our Vineyards.

We can’t deny that Camps Bay Beach is a beauty, but it was a special treat to see Cape Town as a whole shining.
