As if their stunning venue and smooth wines weren’t enough, Cathedral Cellar has just launched new augmented reality labels that offer wine-drinkers informative tasting notes from the winemaker himself.
As part of ensuring their 101-year-old wine brand stays relevant, KWV has launched novel labels for their Cathedral Cellar brand that allows wine enthusiasts to invite its winemaker, Wim Truter to their dinner table – virtually – through the use of augmented reality technology.
The technology makes use of uniquely-printed labels combined with a LABELinmotion App by Vollherbst, which allows consumers to scan the label and watch the winemaker appear. Truter will then provide detailed notes for each wine as well as the stories that inspired them.
Brand Manager for Cathedral Cellar, Tanya Blokdyk, says, “We are incredibly excited to bring wine consumers an interesting way to engage with Cathedral Cellar, a brand which really reflects so many beautiful elements. The cellar is a visual marvel and the winemaker is someone you would want at your dinner table. These things are difficult to capture with just a back table but with virtually reality, people get to step into the cellar and subsequently meet Wim. It is a remarkable way to enhance the wine drinker’s journey.”
Cathedral Cellar’s wines include a Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Triptych, Chardonnay, and Sauvignon Blanc. This new technology not only helps its fans better understand the flavours and care put into each bottle of wine, but also pays tribute to the unique collection of storytelling vats that fill the cellar at KWV.
