To highlight the plight of women in South Africa, female officers from the Claremont police station took to the streets to perform the Jerusalema Dance Challenge.
The group of dedicated women performed on Claremont Main Road and again on Imam Haron Road in front of the SAPS Claremont office on August 18.
The dance forms part of a larger project which aims to educate and raise awareness of gender-based violence (GBV). Other efforts in line with this project include road blocks and the distribution of information pamphlets.
While the dance challenge helped raise awareness for GBV and celebrate Women’s Month, it also showcased the powerful women in the police force who fight against injustice everyday.
Over 50 vehicles pulled over to watch the show and the dance certainly achieved its goal of grabbing the attention of the public.
Members of the police also actively engaged with the public regarding GBV.
