The Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) and Ladles of Love have teamed up to serve food to those who need it most during lockdown. The CTICC will act as the “temporary headquarters” for Ladles of Love.
The CTICC has offered an exhibition hall and kitchen to Ladles of Love. This will be used to prepare, package and send food parcels off to various points around the city. The facilities are beneficial in that there will be enough space for volunteers to do their work, while maintaining a safe distance from one another.
In a Facebook post, the CTICC wrote: “The CTICC is proud to announce that we have partnered with Ladles of Love, an NPO with a heart and tummy-warming mission, to feed those that do not have access to and the privilege of a meal during these challenging times.
“We are in a unique position and honoured to assist by offering 1 500 sq meters of space in the form of an exhibition hall and kitchen to #LadlesOfLove as their temporary headquarters until 30 June 2020.
“Ladles of Love has already packaged and dispatched five tonnes of food parcels to soup kitchens in various communities and now, through partnering with us, they will be able to increase this exponentially, allowing more people to have access to at least one meal per day.”
In a statement, Danny Diliberto, who founded the NPO in 2014 said,“This sudden high demand has stretched our organisation at a logistical level, seeing us completely outgrow our current headquarters. We are immensely grateful to the CTICC for coming to the rescue. The centre has offered us more than 1 500m2 of space to serve as Ladles of Love’s temporary logistics headquarters from 27 April to 30 June 2020.”
Taubie Motlhabane, the CEO of the CTICC said,“I can’t tell you how grateful and honoured we at the CTICC feel, to have been offered the opportunity to contribute in making a small difference to the lives of the vulnerable citizens of Cape Town. To be able to support Ladles of Love in this nurturing and dignity-restoring mission is a privilege. At the CTICC, we subscribe to a triple bottom line business approach, which encompasses people, planet and profit.”
Motlhabane continued: “We are also very grateful and proud to announce that our facilities cleaning contractor, Bidvest Prestige, have donated their cleaning services to this wonderful project.”
