The Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) has generated more than 130 000 job opportunities since it was first opened in 2003. In the past financial year alone, it generated an estimated 14 620 jobs.
During its recent annual general meeting, shareholders were informed that the CTICC has also contributed R1.2-billion to indirect household income in South Africa throughout the 2018/19 financial year.
While the economic trading environment is currently tough, last year’s revenue came to total of R277-million.
It is estimated that the CTICC’s events in the 2018/19 year generated an additional 566 057 room nights in the Western Cape, and 575 898 across the country. The tourism generated from these events also garnered R677-million.
This year, the CTICC invested a total of R1.6-million in corporate social responsibility initiatives, and this includes venue sponsorships.
The convention centre was awarded the 2019 Delegate Choice Award for Innovation at the International Association of Convention Centres (AIPC) Annual Congress in Antwerp, Belgium. It was awarded this accolade for its effort in reducing its water use.
Over 100 international conferences are predicted to attract an estimated 127 000 delegates to the CTICC up until 2026.
