Born as an ode to the late Ali Kronenberg, MasKING has two objectives to achieve during a bitter-cold winter in the middle of a global health pandemic; to distribute as many low-cost, handmade face masks as possible and to use the proceeds thereof to assist Cape Town’s animal shelters with food and blanket drops throughout winter and beyond.

“After the passing of my best friend, Ali, I founded MasKING in honour of her legacy as an avid animal lover and someone who spent most of her disposable income by helping animals in need,” said Tanya Wei.

“We understand that many people are struggling financially which is why we are not necessarily asking for donations as such, but we’re asking people to purchase good quality, 3-ply fabric masks at a low cost and we’ll then use the proceeds of these sales to purchase animal food and blankets that we’ll distribute to shelters in need,” she continued.

The masks are manufactured by hand and in accordance to World Health Organization guidelines. They come in various design options and they fasten behind the ears with a very comfortable elastic strap.

Manufactured in Stellenbosch, Cape Town, the masks are reasonably priced at R50 a mask and can be collected on location or delivery can be arranged at an additional cost.

“If people prefer to make a donation, they are more than welcome to do so. But we really feel that buying a mask adds much more value, whether you end up using the mask yourself or pay it forward by gifting or donating the mask to someone else in need. That way we help animals and the beautiful people of South Africa through these difficult times”.
