If you’re contemplating taking an easy drive along the coast this weekend, then head to Hermanus for the day and stop at the Hermanus country market. Mingle with the local residents and enjoy a range of fresh veggies and artisan bread. Take in the fresh sea breeze while you sip on a bottle of wine while enjoying the live music. Once you’ve gotten your fill of the delicious food on offer have a look at the handmade crafts available that include art and ceramics, clothing and plants.

  • Time: Every Saturday morning, from 9am to 1pm.
  • Location: Fairways Ave & Jose Burman Dr, Hermanus.

Franschhoek Village Market:

A taste of France in the heart of Cape Town, Franschhoek is a wine lover’s dream. Along with numerous wine farms to choose from, they also have a popular farmer’s market available on Saturdays. Indulge in good food, wine and quality crafts, all while strolling through the historic streets of this quaint town. They offer a children’s play area for kids and are pet-friendly, so bring along your fur-baby too.

  • Time: Every Saturday from 9am to 3pm
  • Location: 29 Huguenot Rd, Franschhoek

 Elgin Railway Market:

Located in the lush valley of Elgin, this farmer’s market offers visitors a unique experience. The Elgin Railway Market is held within an old apple warehouse, which has been converted into an “art-deco, steampunk” market. It offers a variety of local produce, food and craft vendors.

Enjoy this historic space, which was originally built in the 1940s, while listening to live music. Local goods and history aren’t the only things that make this market unique. Visitors to this market have the chance to see an 80-year-old steam train roar its way past the market. You can head to the station platform or view its arrival from the Market’s leisure deck.

  • Time: Saturdays and Sundays – 9am to 4pm
  • Location: Oak Avenue Elgin Village Elgin

Blaauwklippen Family Market:

Considered one of the oldest wine estates in Stellenbosch, Blaauwklippen hosts a relaxing market on weekends. Enjoy a lazy Sunday afternoon sitting under the shaded trees while sampling the endless baked goods and fresh produce. Food’s not the only thing available, make sure to purchase a few crafts, jewellery and fashion if you can. This is fun for the entire family, including the kids. Pony rides, pedal carts, soccer darts and jumping castles are bound to keep the kids entertained. The market is also dog-friendly.
