First Thursday is a Cape Town favourite but during the colder months of the year it can be difficult to get yourself out of the house to roam the chilly streets of the Mother City. Now 15 On Orange has a new option for your next First Thursday expedition that you’re sure to find the motivation to go to.
If you’re like me and you’ve always wanted to peek inside the gorgeous 15 On Orange hotel, the perfect excuse is finally here.
Every First Thursday, you can book your spot to watch some of the best cult classic movies of our time while indulging at the Wixworth Gin bar and enjoying delicious movie snacks in a cosy private cinema.
Upon arrival a friendly staff member will show you the way from the foyer, you hop into the grand hotel elevator with a fancy chair and hit the top bottom for your desired destination.
When you exit the elevator, head to your left and go up the stairs on your right, you’ll see the gin bar there and all the gathering movie enthusiasts.
I really enjoyed the gin cocktails, which are served with your choice of tonic and crushed ice for that extra special touch. Before the movie starts I would suggest relaxing in the beautiful lounge area outside the cinema theatre so be sure to come a little early and bring along a friend for a good chat.
When it’s time to head in for the movie, goodies boxes filled with all sorts of delightful movie snacks await each visitor just outside the cinema.
It may be tricky for the hotel to arrange a completely Banting meal as popcorn is not Banting but the organisers will do their best, and vegetarians and vegans can be easily catered for. You can email your dietary requirements to the organisers before the event so they can prepare something for you.
Your box will come with the essential – fresh popcorn, of course – along with a selection of sweets, chocolate and a delicious wrap.
Unlike movies at a cinema you won’t need to wait until you’ve finished your popcorn for the movie to start and you can even stop at the gin bar for a refill before picking your spot in the cinema.
The cinemas is luxurious and comfortable with evenly-spaced couches that allow each member of the audience their personal space while also being warm and welcoming.
Each seating areas has its own table complete with glasses and still water in case you get thirsty in-between all the gin.
Halfway through the movie you’ll be treated to a rich hot chocolate that is simply the cherry on top of the whole experience.
The movie kicks off at 7pm but you can come at 6pm to ensure you have the full experience and get your drinks and socialising in too.
The next movie in the series is Inglourious Bastards and you can grab your ticket for the show on August 1 for R185.
