Enjoy free family-friendly film screenings at the V&A Waterfront amphitheatre from 13 to 14 October as part of the Cape Town International Film Market and Festival (CTIFMF).

The CTIFMF is hosting festival screenings available to the public from the 10 – 19 October at various cinemas within the V&A Waterfront. Over 160 world-class films will be on show, featuring a handpicked selection of movies from independent feature productions and short films to documentaries.

The free screenings are scheduled to start on 13 October at 1.30pm under the theme of environmental films, followed by a screening of a South African directed short film, ‘The Adventures of Supermama’.

These free screenings are the perfect excuse to enjoy the outdoors with the kids.

Schedule of films on show at the amphitheatre:

Environmental short films will be shown to highlight the issues that are prevalent in the South African environment. The films are inspiring and educational, focusing on the impact that some young people are having while creating solutions to these problems. The screenings will run from 1.30pm – 2.45pm.

1.Still I Rise

Vultures are vital to the ecosystem and misconstrue for their impact on farmers. The movie ‘Still I Rise’ focuses on those the take care of vultures. It shares how vultures minimize the spread of diseases and the importance of releasing them back into the wild.

2. Spots in the Mountain 

A short documentary film about the remaining iconic leopards in the fynbos mountains of the Cape. It focuses on the importance of these rare predators left in the wild and how they maintain a balanced ecosystem.

3.World Wild Life: Marine Program – Save our Ocean 

Poaching and over-fishing are some of the challenges faced by South African fishing communities, and the film ‘World Wild Life: Marine Program’ focuses on, Lucile, a young lady from a small fishing community of Ocean View, who has dedicated her life to fighting poachers and raising awareness about the dangers of overfishing.

4. SANCCOB: Guardian of the Ocean 

The film ‘Guardians of the Ocean’ is a documentary film that takes a look at the African Penguins that are facing extinction in the decade to come. It looks at the work that The Southern African Foundation for the Conservation of Coastal Birds (SANCCOB) does and their efforts to save the species.

5. The Adventures of Supermama

The comedic film, ‘The Adventures of Supermama’ tells the story of, Doris Ratabane, as she fights crime in her community. Ratabane’s life changes forever one day when she meets Mr. Hung and decides to learn the ancient art of Kung Fu. A small 10-year-old boy named Tiny encourages Ratabane to work at her Kung Fu skills and she declares that she is ready to fight crime. The story unfolds to showcase the main characters arrogance once she achieves recognition for fighting crime.
