There is nothing better than enjoying Cape Town’s natural landscape during a full moon when the bright lunar rays cast light over every inch of the city, making it possible to experience night-time adventures in an otherworldly atmosphere.
Although folklore says the full lunar sighting can make you ‘looney’, it also tends to bring out the adventurer in everyone.
Here are some epic experiences to try in Cape Town during the next full moon.
1.Full moon Kayaking
Glide above the ocean waters and see Simon’s Town as you have never seen it before with the full moon Kayaking session available once a month. Beginners and experienced paddlers are able to welcome the rising full moon as the sunsets across the ocean.
The trip is two hours long and departs from Simon’s Town waterfront, passing by penguins, seals and dolphins. This awe-inspiring experience costs R400 per person.

2. Moonlight Mass
If you love to cycle, the Moonlight Mass event is for you – cyclists take to the streets of Cape Town under the guise of the moon, enjoying the fresh air and the adrenaline rush.
The Moonlight Mass started as a small social gathering of riders and has now become a popular event in the Mother City, hailing more riders each year. The team meets up at the Green Point circle on a full moon evening, once a month.
A schedule of rides are expected to take place on October 24 2018, November 23 2018, December 22 2018, January 21 2019, February 19 2019, March 21 2019, April 19 2019 and May 18 2019.

3. Lions Head, full moon hike
A full moon hike up the iconic Lions Head mountain offers the perfect view of the city doused in the light of the full moon. The climb up the mountain will take you an estimated hour and picnic baskets are available to order and collect at the base of the mountain on the day.
Once you reach the peak, sit down and relax while you ‘howl’ at the moon with a delicious array of treats. Picnic baskets must be ordered before hand from Dial a Picnic at [email protected].
Attendees are advised to bring lots of water, a warm jacket, flashlight, hiking shoes and snacks. The next upcoming full moon hike is scheduled to take place on October 24 at 6pm.
