A family safari destination located near Mossel Bay, the Garden Route Game Lodge recently underwent a R4.5-million upgrade to create new pools, gardens and recreational areas.
The lodge is located in a malaria-free zone near to Albertinia, a three-and-a-half-hour drive from Cape Town. It houses the Big Five and guests frequently spot herds of zebras, springbok, wildebeest and more.
Having taken six months to complete, the renovations have created a luxury family safari experience for local and international visitors.
Landscape architect Darryl Price Lewis of OvP and Associates was handed the task of designing a space both laid-back and luxurious.
Two new pools have been put in place on the edge of a ridge overlooking the game reserve and valley.
All pools are heated throughout the year, with a family and paddling pool for younger children. Low stone walls placed around the pool areas provide safety for young children.
The main attractions among the new arrivals are the 18 metre infinity pool and adjacent hot tub, which allow guests to float back in the water and watch the skies light up in red and orange hues at sunset.
A waterhole lies not far from the pool. Here, guests can enjoy a cocktail in hand while gazing at wildlife.
The Garden Route Game Lodge hosts an array of amenities for guests – from game night drives, guided walks and a honey moon safari experience for newlyweds.
The lodge’s African Boma restaurant lies unroofed and open to the wild skies, with a fire pit in the boma to help keep guests warm at night.
Luxury suites are available for a secluded getaway and game animals are known to curiously wander by the rooms.
