Once every few weeks, the Mother City truly blows us away with her insane wind. Capetonians have taken to social media to bemoan the recent strong winds that have kept them up and held them back.
The South African Weather Service (SAWS) issued a yellow weather warning 1 for some parts of the Western Cape and Friday, December 4 will be no different. Speeds of over 41km/h are expected so hold on to your hat, skirt, pants and car.
“OFF THE COAST!! Yellow warning 1 for WIND resulting in difficulty in navigation at sea is expected between Lambert’s Bay and Betty’s Bay (W.Cape) from this afternoon until Friday, but between Dassen Island and Betty’s Bay on Saturday and Sunday (03-06/12/2020),” warned SAWS in a a statement.
“Strong to gale force (60-80km/h) southerly to south easterly winds along the western and south western coastal areas are expected, where the strongest winds are expected during the afternoons,” they add.

Weather conditions, i.e. strong winds has forced us to cancel morning peak shuttle service between Fish Hoek and Muizenberg.
Note, the following trains operating from Cape Town to Muizenberg:
T0401, T0403, T0405, T0407 and T0409.
Further updates to follow.— Metrorail W/Cape (@CapeTownTrains) December 4, 2020
SAWS also warned of extremely high fire danger conditions expected in the City of Cape Town and Stellenbosch municipalities on Friday.
It seems like Capetonians are feeling less than festive about the current weather.
I don’t know why Weather apps even bother to give temp details for Cape Town. Should just say ALL THE WIND AND HAY FEVER. That’s all.

Google review of the Cape Town wind:
⭐
Shocking how bad it is. No respect for things that prefer staying upright. Would rate it lower if I could.— Megan Stacy Deane (@MegStaDeane) December 4, 2020
Someone made a comment about how beautiful Cape Town is, but only because you cant see wind in IG phots. I think about that often. pic.twitter.com/jIWbihlgTF

Did anyone get any sleep last night with this crazy Cape Town wind? It felt like our roof was going to come off several times during the night, our side gate sounded like it just managed to stay on the hinges and was screeching every couple of seconds! #tired
