Once every few weeks, the Mother City truly blows us away with her insane wind. Capetonians have taken to social media to bemoan the recent strong winds that have kept them up and held them back.

The South African Weather Service (SAWS) issued a yellow weather warning 1 for some parts of the Western Cape and Friday, December 4 will be no different. Speeds of over 41km/h are expected so hold on to your hat, skirt, pants and car.

“The wind along the coast will be moderate southerly along the south-coast, otherwise strong southerly to south-easterly touching gale between Lambert’s Bay and Hermanus,” said SAWS.

“OFF THE COAST!! Yellow warning 1 for WIND resulting in difficulty in navigation at sea is expected between Lambert’s Bay and Betty’s Bay (W.Cape) from this afternoon until Friday, but between Dassen Island and Betty’s Bay on Saturday and Sunday (03-06/12/2020),” warned SAWS in a a statement.

“Strong to gale force (60-80km/h) southerly to south easterly winds along the western and south western coastal areas are expected, where the strongest winds are expected during the afternoons,” they add.

The wind is so bad Metrorail was forced to cancel their morning peak shuttle service between Fish Hoek and Muizenberg.

SAWS also warned of extremely high fire danger conditions expected in the City of Cape Town and Stellenbosch municipalities on Friday.

It seems like Capetonians are feeling less than festive about the current weather.
