Cape Town’s famous bakery and much-loved hang out, Charly’s Bakery, is in danger of permanently closing their doors as a result of lockdown.
Charly’s Bakery was founded by Jacqui Beiss and her late-husband Charly, and is now run by Jacqui and her three daughters Alex and Dani, and Roch, who in 2015 moved to England.
Lockdown regulations have been tough on the family business, forcing them to turn to the community they have served sweet goods to over the years.
“We would love to continue adding magic to the lives of everyone we engage with. Unfortunately due to social distancing and Lockdown Level 5, we have not been able to trade and are now facing very real financial difficulties. Today we are launching a crowdfunding campaign with Jumpstarter to raise funds to keep Charly’s Bakery in business,” said the family.
Very few visits to Cape Town or family outings are complete with a cupcake or a cookie from Charly’s Bakery. The legendary emporium of all things sweet has brought happiness to the hearts of visitors and locals for years, becoming an important part of the Cape Town community.
“There is no easy way to say this: we’re at risk of losing our business. There is a very real possibility that after lockdown, we won’t be able to keep our doors open. But there is hope and we hope our story isn’t done just yet,” adds the family.
Their goal is to reach R750 000 to keep their doors open and their staff paid. Rather than just taking monetary donations, Charly’s Bakery has teamed up with Jumpstarter.co.za to launch the most #MuckingAfazing Crowdfunding campaign.
The campaign offers an exciting range of rewards for patrons to choose from, starting at less than the price of a cupcake.Patrons can also choose to pay towards experiences such as high tea at Charly’s Bakery, cupcake and cookie decorating parties, cooking internships and masterclasses.
If you would like to keep this piece of Cape Town’s history and it’s future alive, then go to this page to purchase your reward and save Charly’s Bakery.
