Remember that time a Hout Bay seal made local headlines when he banged on the doors of Pakalolo restaurant in Table View, demanding to be let in to be fed? It seems he made quite the impression, as the restaurant has given him new life.

Back in June, the seal became an unexpected visitor at the Table View restaurant, giving patrons quite the surprise when he made his presence known.

“The seal must have been washed along from Hout Bay during the stormy weather according to the rescue team. The seal made it way across the double lane and up an embankment. It banged on the doors with its flippers as if it knew that we had food in there,” Pakalolo’s owner Michael explained.

The seal was rescued by the Hout Bay Seal Rescue (HBSR) Centre team, and was assisted by the SPCA Wildlife Unit and the fast-acting members of the public who cordoned off the roads to keep him safe until help arrived.

The seal was fed and doctored by the HBSR team and has since moved on, most probably for mating season.

Months after the incident, Pakalolo owners have commemorated the incident with a  life-size sculpture made by local artist Wikus  Du Toit of Insomnia Art.
The seal now sits comfortably in the restaurant and visitors are loving it, with many stopping to take a picture with the famous sea animal.
Pakalolo also started a collection for the HBSR team to support them in all they do, and people are encouraged to donate what they can.

The HBSR centre operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days of the year and has three full time seal carers who work on a shift rotation. The NGO is in need of donations, and every bit helps to continue the very important work they do and to support their dedicated staff. If you would like to financially support them, donations can be made to:
