Locals will be delighted to know that tickets are still available for the rugby event of the year, the HSBC Cape Town World Sevens, which takes place next month.

The HSBC Cape Town World Sevens attracts thousands of local and international viewers every year. An SA Rugby spokesperson recently confirmed that rugby fans still have the chance to obtain tickets for the rugby event.

A new ticketing system that was implemented for the international event required members of the public to register to secure their chance to purchase tickets.

The new registration system ensures that all interested parties have a fair chance at attending the event.

The SA Rugby spokesperson explains that buyers can register as either loyalty members, lottery members or out-of-towners. Out-of towners receive a package deal that includes flights, accommodation and tickets to the matches themselves.

“We were over-subscribed in our request for loyalty and lottery purchases and those individuals still have a chance to redeem the offer of tickets,” he says.

Tickets may go on general sale, says the SA Rugby representative, once currently-registered ticket buyers are given the chance to purchase tickets, an announcement will be made if there are any remaining ones available.

“If, and we must stress the ‘if’, any tickets become available it, will be through Computicket, but that is not currently the case,” he says.

This year a total of 34 428 registrations were completed and a total of 163 424 tickets requested, which is twice as much as are available for public sale. In 2017, tickets to the event sold out within less than an hour. The new registration system allows potential buyers the chance to purchase tickets when they have the time.

The SA Rugby spokesperson comments on how the current registration system gives everyone a fair chance to buy a ticket.

“We wanted to give as many people as possible an opportunity to purchase, so our registration system meant this [did not need] to be a sprint. Tickets are still in fact being purchased every day in a traffic-free environment,” he says.

The HSBC Cape Town Sevens will be looking into improving its system of sales delivery next year, to provide people wanting to attend with a hassle-free experience.
