Many Capetonians take the intimate stories of the Mother City for granted. How many times have you marveled at the rich culture and bright houses of the Bo-Kaap without thinking of the tales its residents could tell? Have you ever thought about where the beauty of Cape Town stems from?

Kaapse Stories From The Mother City is a show that will delight and inspire even the most jaded Capetonian. This vibrant show will inspire you to look more closely at the sights and sounds we take for granted in this incredible city – from the sound of the taxi guards shouting “Wynberg, Wynberg!”, to the shadow of the seagulls passing by overhead as you walk through the humid streets during summer.

The show is hosted at The Rockwell Dinner Theatre, which is spectacularly decorated to resemble a street in Cape Town’s days of old. Banners strung between light posts reflect the vibrance of the Cape, as its streets are filled with bright sequined uniforms of the famous minstrels that parade through the city centre during the festive season.

The mixture of guests that come to enjoy Kaapse Stories range from locals to tourists from the UK and Australia, and offers a delicious four-course meal that will leave you smacking your lips. From a delicious vegetable biryani to the perfectly juicy potjiekos, you will line up for not only seconds, but thirds too (providing the waist of your jeans allow it).

The show is a mixture of narrative and show-and-dance while performers interact with the audience. Brace yourself, you may be pulled from your seat to dance on stage, but I can guarantee that this only adds to the delight of the show.

The show follows the Kleintjies clan, a family of diverse and colourful performers who embody the true spirit of Cape Town’s own “rainbow nation” and absolutely love performing for The Rockwell’s adoring crowd.

The characters are relatable and are based on the real personalities of the residents of the Cape, from your favourite prim and proper uncle to the lovable (and sometimes pesky) car guard.

Be sure to book your seat today for an experience that will leave you looking at the people you pass by on a daily basis with fresh perspective and appreciating the beautiful land we live in a little more.
