Capetonians will be spoilt for choice when SA’s favourite ‘up’-market returns to Kloof Street end March. The KAMERS/Makers team is well-known for their meticulous curation of the best in proudly local, handcrafted design, decor, fashion, accessories, food, drinks and so much more, all presented as beautiful experiences across the country.

The first of their five 2020 shows hits the heart of Cape Town at Jan Van Riebeeck High School on March 26-29. The show features over 130 Maker-entrepreneurs, handpicked for their unique creative flair.

Wanda du Toit, Creative Director at KAMERS/Makers, says sustainability and environmental consciousness is a growing focus at the event. Visitors can look forward to trends like an increased use of sustainable fabrics like Hemp and Tencel (made from eucalyptus trees), as well as local wool. Among the Makers a big trend is working with plants, using plants to clean the environment and soften spaces.

As KAMERS’ great partnership with Consol Glass continues, each visitor will receive a free Curvy glass bottle to refill at purified water stations around the show. To date they have given away 75,000 Curvy bottles, saving a staggering 160,000+ plastic bottles from ending up in SA landfills. Together they are removing all single-use plastic from their events.

The Consol Shop has also been a hit at their Summer 2019 shows and will make its first appearance at both their Autumn shows in Cape Town and Joburg, offering shoppers first pick of new products, as well as specials not available anywhere else.

“Joyful prints on material is another trend to look out for, perhaps subconsciously a way to deal with current world issues,” says Du Toit. And on that front, KAMERS is the place to find the biggest handpicked selection of proudly local fashion in one space. From ladies wear, activewear, leisurewear, underwear, swimwear, accessories and jewellery, to a growing selection of men’s fashion and kiddies wear and accessories, there is something for everyone.

In addition to delicious food options from the deli, look out for some of the best handcrafted gins, local bubbly, unique Karoo agave tequila, a variety of non-alcoholic beverages and much more.

New at this show, Is Art from Franschhoek is taking over the Welgemeend space at Jan van Riebeeck, transforming it into a beautiful gallery. Shoppers can also look forward to live music on the Saturday.

Don’t miss KAMERS/Makers Cape Town. It is a long wait until the next Cape show in Stellenbosch at the end of October.

Don’t forget that you can access the KAMERS/Makers magic 24/7 at shop.kamersvol.com, an award-winning online selection of our favourite Makers.
