The popular Liefde by die dam music festival was held for the second time in Cape Town on Saturday, November 17 at Meerendal wine estate. And what a blast it was. Exactly 12 000 music lovers  braved 45 km/h winds to watch their favourite artists perform.

The annual festival first started in Gauteng at Emmerentia dam and a Cape Town version was created after it proved hugely successful. Friends and family of all ages come together bringing blankets and picnic baskets, lawn chairs, umbrellas and if they’re smart, lots of sunscreen. Then, after the festivities end, guests leave behind their blankets to be collected by charity organisation and clothing brand Liefde Wen for those in need.

Ample parking was provided, with security guards swiftly showing guests where to park and making sure the vehicles are safe. Accommodating that many people, the lines at the entrance moved quickly and effectively Promptly reacting to feedback from the first trial  in 2018, organisers ensured enough toilets, cleaned and restocked regularly. The bar area (strictly no under 18s allowed) was spacious and the friendly staff was quick to get that cold one in your hand.

Settling in on the grass, all the festival-goers happily made new friends all around, eager to see the magnificent line-up. The best English and Afrikaans artists from all over the country, including the likes of Majozi, Die Heuwels Fantasties, Spoegwolf and Francois van Coke were introduced by the much loved comedian Schalk Bezuidenhout. The sound was excellent, the stage was beautiful and the performances were stellar.

A day of blissful sunshine and good feels, perfectly fitting for this time of year when everyone is slowly starting to unwind after a busy year.
