Ethan Palangangwe (10), a talented singer from Eastridge, Mitchells Plain has officially arrived in KwaZulu-Natal to begin his first semester at the prestigious Drakensberg Boys Choir School. This is all thanks to the public, who donated generously to make his dream a reality.
The Grade 5 learner was one of only 30 students out of 1600 to receive an acceptance letter to enrol at the private school for 2021, but his family couldn’t afford the fees. In December 2o20, his parents Kagisho and Candice appealed to the public to help them make their son’s dream of attending the school come true.
His fees cost about R175 000 for the first year, and thanks to a successful crowdfunding campaign on BackaBuddy, the family has thus far raised over R98 000 with contributions from 26 donors both locally and internationally.
With his acceptance fee and uniform covered, Ethan already begun his first semester through online classes.
“We are going to miss seeing our little man every day, but we know he will continue to make us proud and inspire others with his unique gift. A new and exciting journey lies ahead!” says Ethan’s proud dad, Kagisho.
Starting on a high note, he has already received 92% for his first music theory assignment, despite never taking music studies. He is also excelling in his mathematics quizzes.
However, Ethan still needs help from the public to continue living out his dream. He will need additional donations to help cover the remainder of his fees for the school year. If you are in a position to help, please donate to Ethan’s campaign HERE. All funds raised will be paid directly to the school.
