Cape Town’s rail network has gotten an upgrade with the introduction of a new automated control centre in Bellville.
The Bellville Rail Management and Traffic Control Centre (RM&TCC) was launched on Friday, October 16 and is the new control centre at Prasa’s operations headquarters. It will see the automation of all passenger rail operations, improve on-time performance of passenger trains as well as safety.
It will also be used to co-ordinate and integrate the activities of Customer Services, Train Operations, Infrastructure, Rolling Stock, Protection Service and Marketing & Communication departments.
The control centre cost R2-billion and brings a shift from manual to automatic operations, especially necessary as vandalism has impacted on Prasa’s ability to deliver services in the past.
TRAIN SIGNALING: from manual to Automatic.
The investment made to FIX PRASA are showing results. The automated signaling and control systems will make train service better and more efficient. More gas to be done to fix PRASA #FixingPRASA pic.twitter.com/GeCUUrP93S
