Constantia’s very own Nik Rabinowitz is performing his latest routine of rip-roaringingly hilarious observations fairly close to home soil – you can catch him live with his latest show Late Bloomer at the Baxter Theatre.
Rabinowitz is now 43-years-old, and his hairline is receding – much like his childhood dreams of being a professional sportsman. Late Bloomer deals with the many things we go through in life, and how some of us bloom before others. Stepping out before the crowd in a t-shirt that reads ‘Fowl Mouth’ (the words are printed atop the picture of a rooster), audiences can brace themselves for language that may hurt some sensitive ears, but delight others.
In fact, this is one of the many things he pokes fun at during the show. “I get so many emails about my language and material,” he sighed before a background of oversized flowers.
The stage is one of the things that sets this show apart from others – one usually expects a lone stool, and a bottle of water on a table when going out for an evening of comedy. The stage was covered in large flowers, which according to Rabinowitz, are straight off the set of The Teletubbies.
The audience also actively participated in the routine, as he called members for sneaking in 10 minutes late and questioned how the Afrikaans and Jewish lifestyle differs from the “soutie” lifestyle.
Overall, everyone who left the theatre seemed to marvel at how a comedian could find a way to describe so many common experiences everyone could relate to.
Seeing Late Bloomer is definitely worthwhile – be prepared to leave in a fit of giggles and little more joy in your heart.
