Heroic petrol attendant, Lawrence Kananji, was on his way to work when he saw an elderly lady being attacked by thugs on a road in Table View, and automatically put his life at risk to save her.
It takes a very special kind of person to put their life at risk to save a stranger, and Kananji is definitely special.
Kananji was walking along the road when he saw a suspicious blue car parked up ahead. A man then emerged from the vehicle a proceeded to attack an elderly woman who also happened to be walking down the same road a little further ahead of Kananji.
Another attacker joined the first man and as they threw the woman to the ground and started to hit her in an attempt to steal her belongings.
“I saw the blue car parked along the road and was walking towards it when I saw a guy jump out and attack the woman. They threw her to the ground and were beating her as they tried to steal things from her. I ran towards them and when they saw me they jumped into the car and drove off. They were pointing something at me, but I couldn’t see what it was,” Kanaji said to Wheels24.
He fought off the attackers and saved the shocked elderly woman from being robbed and seriously injured.
Kananji then stopped a motorist along the road, explained what had happened and asked if he would please drive the lady home.
This man happened to be Glenn Trevor Skip Bradfield who later posted about the experience on Facebook explaining that Kananji was his “hero for today”.
The post was loved by many.
After the whole incident, Kananji received a lot of attention but he didn’t even tell the people he worked with about it because it was simply the right thing to do.
Owner of the service centre where Kananji works, Costa Petsas, said: “He just arrived at work and never told a single person what had happened. Now he’s become something of a celebrity and I’d like him to know how very proud I am.
