#HighburyHearsYou – we at Cape Town Etc are passionate about getting local restaurants back and booming in business. As part of our #HighburyHearsYou initiative, we’re dishing out the deets on some incredible restaurants and bars in and around town.

Thirsty Thursday is upon – or as many call it, Klein Saturdag. This is the day of the week where the weekend feels so close, but you still have to make it past the hurdle of Friday to really get there. Here are some bars across the Mother City to pay a visit to to keep those weekday blues at bay, and invite the spirit of the weekend to carry us through to the end of Friday.

Maderias Bar & Bistro

Madeira’s Bar & Bistro is a restaurant, bar and live music venue nestled in the heart of the Southern Suburbs. Recently taken over by new owners wanting to put some love and life back into this well-known establishment. Madeiras is a fusion bistro and bar, driven by the values of quality service and customer satisfaction.

Dust and Dynamite

This small bar always attracts people watering in simply to ask “what is this?”. Fear not, this bar is no mirage; it is simply Western-themed.

While it is small, the staff and patrons are friendly and offer a laid-back vibe that is the perfect way to begin easing into the weekend.

Hank’s Olde Irish

Hank’s is a long-standing bar in Cape Town, and attracts jazz lovers from far and wide. It is known for its array of live jazz performances, and also has an impressively stocked whiskey bar.

Be sure to pay a visit and settle down at one of its plush leather boots for a drinking experience you’ll never forget.

The Gin Bar

This popular speak-easy is known for its yummy and extensive selection of gins and beautiful open-air courtyard. While many know of its locations, you have to pass through Honest Chocolate to enter.

“The courtyard is sheltered from the South Easter in summer,  and at night when the string lights come on,  you won’t find anything more romantic in the city,” the bar’s site reads.

You can also arrange to have a tasting to properly acquaint yourself with the number of gins that are on offer.

They are known for their wonderful wine and champagne list, as well as their lush old-world Artdeco interiors. Be sure to stop by their balcony bar and watch the city slow down as day turns to night.
