#HighburyHearsYou – we at Cape Town Etc are passionate about getting local restaurants back and booming in business. As part of our #HighburyHearsYou initiative, we’re dishing out the deets on some incredible restaurants in and around town.
Cause|Effect Cocktail Kitchen and Cape Brandy Bar in Cape Town has just announced the release of the Cocktail Culture Club, and it’s definitely got us buzzing. This exciting launch provides an educational platform for both drinks-industry professionals and general cocktail enthusiasts alike. The Cocktail Culture Club aims to revitalise the drinks community after the undeniably tough 2020, which we all deserve a drink after.
“The South African bar scene is not back on track yet,” Kurt Schlechter, co-owner of Cause|Effect said. Thanks to alcohol bans, the industry is not yet in a stable space. The Cocktail Culture Club provides industry networking, skill-upliftment and home bar-tending teachings to refresh the industry.
“We host evenings of cocktail history and fine spirits, presented by passionate industry professionals,” Schlechter explained. These are every second Tuesday at Cause|Effect. The venue itself is a study in creativity, transforming raw ingredients into cocktail masterpieces.
The evenings feature three guest speakers, two bartenders and a distiller or brand ambassador to teach us about the brand.
The talks are tasty, instructive and informal, oh, and there are discounted cocktails for attendees!
Additionally, there is a fund attached to the KG Schlechter Bartender Enrichment Fund, aiming to send a local bartender to London Cocktail Week. Proceeds from the cocktail sales on the evenings will go towards the fund, and additional donations from brands and individuals are more than welcome.
