There is no shortage of options around Cape Town when it comes to selecting a coffee shop to get your daily caffeine fix. However, these options are usually part of a much larger chain of stores, which is good if you’re in a rush. However, if you’re looking for a lesser-known coffee shop that serves up unique brews of coffee, look no further. We’ve gathered a list of some of the best hidden gem coffee shops around the Mother City for you to explore.

1- Espresso Lab

Espresso Lab Microroasters is a specialty coffee roastery based at The Old Biscuit Mill, Woodstock, Cape Town. They have been roasting small boutique batches of coffee since 2009, and are one of the pioneers of the specialty coffee movement both locally and worldwide.

If you would like to experience some of their brews, Espresso Lab is open to the public and has a large selection of espresso and filter based drinks to choose from, with the addition of a few interesting coffee cocktails. They also sell a selection of coffee-related products, magazines and books!

Espresso Lab also offers a subscription service, meaning you’ll get freshly roasted coffee delivered to your doorstep, every month. 2- Truth Coffee

Truth Coffee Roasting has built a reputation for selecting and roasting some of the world’s most exclusive coffees, and seeing as they have been named the world’s best coffee shop by The Daily Telegraph for two years in a row, they are definitely worth checking out!

Their coffee menu offers a wide range of different brews, including the ‘Resurrection Blend’, which features subtle chocolate notes with a high acidity that cuts through milk. The ‘Single Origin India’, which is described as spicy and nutty with chocolate undertones, and the ‘Black Honey Blend’, which features a natural sweetness with a smooth, satisfying finish, guaranteed to leave you satisfied.

Kamili, which means ‘Perfect’ in Swahili, is the ideal way to describe this coffee shop, and it’s easy to see why. At Kamili Coffee, they strive for perfection by only picking, roasting, and serving up flawless cups of coffee. Whether you are looking for a cup of coffee, a bag of beans or a coffee supplier, they’ve got you covered.

Kamili Coffee has two unique house blends that you simply have to try. The first of which is called Kamili Khaya, which is made up of two African coffees with complementing characters that make it easy to enjoy and hard to forget. The second house blend is called Lion Heart, which is the perfect combination of Colombian & Ethiopian harmony, creating a slightly darker and stronger brew.

At Haas KO:OP, everything is made and sourced with care and consideration. They favour the return to old-fashioned values with family recipes that nurtured us over decades. All food items are fresh, ethically-sourced and prepared without additives or preservatives.
