#HighburyHearsYou – we at Cape Town Etc are passionate about getting local restaurants back and booming in business. As part of our #HighburyHearsYou initiative, we’re dishing out the deets on some incredible restaurants in and around town.
I’ve always felt as though the Northern Suburbs had a bad wrap. According to some, it’s just “too far out”, and there’s nothing to do. While valid points, I have to disagree with that last part, not because I feel personally attacked as someone born and raised in this part of the world, but because there is plenty to do. Idyllic rolling hills as the backdrop, and the click-clack of Afrikaans (or at least, that’s how it sounds in my head), visiting the Northern Suburbs is like being transported to a different part of the world. And isn’t that what makes Cape Town great?
To help cultivate your appreciation for all things Northern Suburbs while building your culinary repertoire, here are eight restaurants that are a must-try:
Moksh
Have a craving for some Indian food? Moksh is nestled in the Durbanville suburb of Aurora and is a favourite amongst locals. They offer authentic Indian food, and prices are reasonable for the amount of food you get on your plate. It also offers a family-style atmosphere that’s perfect for the kids and grandma.

On the Rocks:

If spicy isn’t what you’re after, then try something fishy. Blouberg isn’t exactly in the Northern Suburbs, but it’s something we have unofficially claimed. Nestled along the beachfront, On the Rocks offers mind-blowing views of Table Mountain and scrumptious seafood dishes. With nearly 56 years of experience under their belts, you’ll certainly get your money’s worth. Fish isn’t the only thing on the menu. They also offer an extensive menu that includes Cape Malay curry and burgers.
- Location: 45 Stadler Road, Bloubergstrand, Cape Town
The Tangram Restaurant at Durbanville Hills
If you’re travelling along the Durbanville wine route, this winery is a must-try. “Come for the wine, and stay for the food” should definitely be the motto when referring to this contemporary-styled restaurant. Set against the backdrop of Table Mountain and Table Bay, they offer delectable foods that range from eggs benedict to venison layered with grilled apricots cinnamon walnut dressing. Even if wine is not on your agenda, the food alone is worth the visit.
- Location: Tygerberg Valley Road, Cape Farms, Cape Town
Patina Steak & Fine Wine D’Aria

D’Aria is another incredible wine estate located along the Durbanville wine route. They offer a cosy and moody atmosphere that’s reflected in their decor and menu. Enjoy a glass of gin at their gin bar before choosing between their famous peri-peri prawns or a juicy steak and chips. During summer, they offer a little veranda from which you can enjoy the stunning views of the Winelands.
