#HighburyHearsYou – we at Cape Town Etc are passionate about getting local restaurants back and booming in business. As part of our #HighburyHearsYou initiative, we’re dishing out the deets on some incredible restaurants in and around town.

Oude Wellington is a farm-style location with 31 hectares of vineyards, horse paddocks, and bamboo hideaways. Extra amazing – they are pet-friendly too! No companion left behind.

Owners, John and Susanna Tecklenburg, are loved and respected by their community, maintaining a very high standard of food and service at the farm.

The restaurant offers a delightful breakfast menu namely, Plaas Ontbyt / Breakfast, bobotie driehoekies and fresh roostebrood. Just the thought alone is beyond mouthwatering.

Like many during lockdown, Oude Wellington have suffered huge losses. To add to their existing struggles is a huge sign informing people that the road to the farm is closed, which is just a kilometer before the turnoff to Oude Wellington.

We’re here to let you know that Oude Wellington is open and ready to serve!

Stunning lawns, great wine and food aside, the restaurant hosts a Happy Hour Saturdays, offering a cocktail and a piece of cake for R45. Now that’s a sweet deal!

Oude Wellington is situated on the foot of the Hawekwa mountains, making it an ideal spot for guests to unwind amidst the beauty of nature.

“We feel blessed to be open, but it is not easy. Our restaurant is not surviving due to so little guests visiting”, say the owners.

“We are here every day and hardly see anyone during the week. It is hard sitting for hours with the hope that someone will arrive at our door.”

The couple lost their home last year and also received a call from the balju’s office notifying them that their family vehicle will be taken away.

“I am not sure how much longer we can do this. My husband, who is the chef, and I are not young anymore and we won’t be able to keep up with this situation”, added Susanna.

“We are strong individuals and over the years we could handle a lot, but we feel both we are now very close to the end of the road.”

Oude Wellington will be hosting a live entertainment evening on March,19 with Peter Vanne, and a two course menu prepared by the passionate Chef, John Tecklenburg. Join in support of this wonderful farm that cannot wait to give you a warm welcome.
