#HighburyHearsYou – we at Cape Town Etc are passionate about getting local restaurants back and booming in business. As part of our #HighburyHearsYou initiative, we’re dishing out the deets on some incredible restaurants in and around town.

At the heart of every meal is of course, well, the food. Around that though, is a body of emotions, memories, ambience, and personal taste. Editor of Cape {Town} Etc, Robyn Simpson, is up next to deliver her favourite eateries around town – all in the name of #HighburyHearsYou.

Favourite breakfast – Wild Sprout, Kenilworth / Tashas, Constantia Village

By far my most favoured meal of the day, nothing speaks my language more than a steaming Americano with hot oat milk, accompanied by a divine brekkie. It’s a toss-up between Shakshuka with sourdough from Wild Sprout and a classic granola or hummus toastie from Tashas for me.

Favourite lunch – Olympia Café, Kalk Bay / Kleinsky’s Delicatessen, Sea Point

Nothing on earth satisfies my soul more than sea and sun. Oh, and a seafood pasta from Olympia Café. A dip at my favourite Dalebrook tidal pool is just a stone’s throw away from this little haven on the corner. Bare feet, sandy skin and a glass of crisp sauvignon blanc pair perfectly with pasta and pristine views of the harbour. Equally adored is a tuna mayo-bagel from Kleinsky’s, with extra “everything” seasoning, of course.

Favourite dinner – Yindee’s, Gardens

No one does authentic Thai better than Yindee’s. Give me all the tofu green curry. Your girl here can handle the heat, and this saucy number delivers on every level. Patrons are offered a truly unique experience with traditional floor seating – no shoes allowed. I love getting cross-legged and cozy next to the big bay windows where I can watch the city live and in action. Dinner and a show, I suppose.

Favourite sweet spot – The Hog House, Ndabeni

Anyone who knows me knows the ridiculously deep love I have for pastry. I only eat savoury to survive. Sweet, crispy goodness is simply unbeatable. While I am a self-proclaimed croissant queen, there is one golden delight that hits the spot like no other: a pastéis de nata from The Hog House. No one, I repeat, no one makes these little Portuguese custard tarts better. The only problem? I could eat ten in one go. You can also find these babies at the Oranjezicht City Farm Market on weekends.

Favourite drinks place – The Fat Cactus, Gardens

I’m more of a festival fairy than a bar dweller, but hey, a girl needs her whisky. If a night on the town is on the cards, I’m a sucker for The Fat Cactus. Casual, vibey and frozen margaritas by the jug. What could go wrong? Warning: the house-brewed gingerbread tequila is a lot less sweet the next day.

The big escape – Die Strandloper, Langebaan

If I’m planning to head out of town for a meal, I’m taking on a “go big or go home” attitude. Die Strandloper offers up two things I love: the ocean and all-you-can-eat seafood. Prepare to feast on all sorts of seafood dishes, made in true West Coast style, by real West Coast people. A road trip well worth taking.

So, there you have it – my menu of eateries that keep me coming back time and time again.
