#HighburyHearsYou – we at Cape Town Etc are passionate about getting local restaurants back and booming in business. As part of our #HighburyHearsYou initiative, we’re dishing out the deets on some incredible restaurants in and around town.

Did we need another excuse to take advantage of the Mother City’s gorgeous cocktail scene? Probably not. But hey, we’re not complaining! Check out these 5 spots serving up gold in a glass, sipped, sealed and delivered by Cape {town} Etc’s very own Jay-tee Davidson.

Every single year I make this one mistake. I miss World Cocktail Day. For someone who regularly sips on shaken margaritas and dabbles in Espresso Martinis, I never want to be this disappointed in myself again. So, as soon as I got my 2021 calendar I made sure to circle the 13th of May with my red marker. Don’t forget Jay-tee, it’s WORLD COCKTAIL DAY.

I have done my research, and today is the day! I made sure to find spots that are all in the city so that I can have a safe and smooth hop around town.

  1. Cause and Effect Cocktail Kitchen

Look, I’m a big fan of a tasty drink but an even bigger fan of a drink that arrives in a smoking glass cage. I’ve been waiting for the day where I too can try the famous gin-based “DRINKATERIUM”. This cool spot is truly the house of cocktails, and they have a trophy to back it up!

Where: 280 Dock Road, V&A Waterfront

  1. The Athletic Club and Social

This three-story tall bar and eatery boasts an array of cocktails, from a classic old fashioned to their signature vodka-based “Doorway of Champions”. Different colour rooms and private hideaways for me and my squad. I can’t wait to go and socialise with the locals.

Where: 35 Buitengracht Street, Cape Town City Centre

  1. I Love the Dough

When Biggie said “ I love the dough, more than you know,” I felt that. Pizzas, cocktails and a naughty slushy machine? All of this is in one place? I can already see it, me slurping away at their icy Pink Paloma underneath their “It’s all good baby” neon sign. I am literally counting the hours to be right in the middle of all things pink.

Where: 101 Bree Street, Cape Town City Centre

  1. Burger and Lobster

Where do I even start? Apart from drooling over their cute B&L bar bites, I’ve spent some time scrolling through their vast cocktail menu. Listen, I came across some pretty interesting picks. Have you ever sipped on a Bacon & Maple Old Fashioned or a fruity Lobster Martini? Me neither, but I am pretty excited to try!

Where: 105 Bree Street, Cape Town City Centre

  1. The Wolf House

Don’t worry Cape Town, I made sure to find a restaurant with a rooftop! One with a view that you’ll never forget. Check this: they have strawberry and lime “Coronaritas!” What better way to celebrate World Cocktail day than with a drink that feels bottomless while peeking over at our beautiful Table Mountain?

Where: 62 Kloof Street, Gardens

There you have it, every reason why you should join me today. What better way to celebrate World Cocktail Day than right on our doorstep!
