Delight your senses and indulge in a rich, creamy, crumbly cheese treats at the third annual Say Cheese Artisanal Cheese Fair on 6 and 7 October at the Italian Club.
Created by well-known foodie, Miki Ciman, this celebration of all things cheese will focus on world-class artisan and boutique cheese makers, bakers, brewers and winemakers.
Organiser Kiki Ciman-Frauenknecht: “This year it’s all about the art and creativity of cheese making by the extraordinary local talent we have in South Africa. Many of our exhibitors are small producers who rarely travel outside their areas to market their cheese. It’s going to be a cheese-lover’s paradise.”
Fellow organizer, Elize Nel, says that visitors love being able to interact with local cheesemakers at the event. “They are passionate about and committed to their trade, and love to share the fruits of their labour with others. We’ll have all kinds of cheeses including gorgonzola, pecorino, fontina, provolone, brie, mozzarella, blue or cheddar – a jam-packed assortment of gastronomic delights for turophiles.” Nel said.
On top of all of the best cheeses in town, the exciting weekend line-up will also include leading chefs, food bloggers and wine purveyors conducting tastings, pairings and cheese-making demonstrations.
“There truly will be something for everyone including a demo area where well-known chefs show you how to wine or beer tastings, a kids’ playground to live music,” says Ciman.
Tickets will be available from Webtickets or at the door at a cost of R95 for adults, R55 for pensioners/ICCT members and scholars aged 12 to 18. Kids under twelve enter free.
Fair-goers can also enjoy the lovely Italian style grocery store on their way out of the fair, perfect for conveniently grabbing extra ingredients to go with all their decadent cheeses.
